Being a good host is important to us. It is important to show your visitors how clean and caring your family is. In the next paragraph I am going to explain ways you can be a kind and good host to your visitors.
Whenever someone knocks or pulls up their car in your car park. Then always welcome them in. Never welcoming them in is disrespect and rude in my culture. Always act like you are glad when you welcome them in even though you don’t want them to come in.
When the guests are sitting down and talking to you offer something to eat and drink for them. If they don’t want it just leave it on the table for them. When it's almost time to have a big meal. Tell them to come on to the table. Which in my culture is what we say, faamolemole sau i luga o le laulau ma ‘ai. It means please come on the table and eat .That will show the guest that your family is lovely.
After you guys have eaten your meal sit down and watch tv and talk about something. Maybe talk about how their day was or talk about family. In our family when we have families over and watch tv we sometimes talk about church or rugby. It is also important to keep the conversation going.
When it’s time they are going to keep them to stay for a little while. When they are going and leaving say goodbye to them. It’s also important to give them something before they leave. Give them food or something when they are leaving.
Being a good host is welcoming them into your house and acting like you want them in. It is also important to offer them something to drink or eat and if they say no still put on the table for them and that’ll show respect. It’s also important when there is a big meal you offer them to the table. After you have eaten, sit down and have a conversation and it’s also important to keep the conversation going.
